Niki & Vincent
Niki (left below) & Vincent (right below) are two cream 8 year olds who came to rescue because their owner suffered a back injury and was no longer able to care for them. Thankfully, they were able to remain together and are moving to their new home in Canada where they will help promote international understanding!
Dakota
Dakota is a 3 year old black & tan male who was turned over to rescue because his owner was moving and not able to have him at her new home. He was bred at a puppy mill in Maine and his breeders were unwilling to take him back. Dakota was fostered in MA where he was evaluated by Chris & Larry Cassenti as well as their canine crew and the unanimous decision was that he was a perfect dog. Lori & Steve Holland of RI were looking for a companion for their other rescue hound, Ziggy and saw Dakota’s story on our website. A meeting was quickly arranged between Ziggy and Dakota. They hit it off and Steve and Lori quickly opened their home and hearts to Dakota.
Jimi
Jimi is a spirited 2 year old black and tan boy who was turned over to rescue when his owner passed away recently. He was fostered briefly by Linda Hansen in Maine and then quickly adopted by Judy & John Griffin of New Hampshire. John and Judy are experienced Afghan owners who fell in love with his winning ways immediately and are willing to put up with his teenage antics.
Claudia (now Ava)
"Claudia (now Ava) started life in Texas. When her serviceman owner was about to be deployed, he advertised her for sale on the web.
She was purchased sight unseen in July and flown to northern Maine to a couple who had never seen an Afghan Hound before and did not understand their personalities. She lived in a tiny cabin with no space of her own. After a few weeks, she reportedly snapped at a man who was doing construction on the cabin.
The owners contacted rescue and Ava was moved to an experienced foster home where she spent the next 4 months being evaluated. Ava was found to be hypothyroid and was started on appropriate meds and was spayed. She also had a crate of her own for privacy and other dogs to play with as well as the opportunity to interact with new people. While a little shy with strangers, Ava has shown no signs of aggression and has blossomed into a sweet, silly, typical Afghan girl.
On 1/1/11, the new year got off to a very auspicious start for her and Ava made the move to her new life with Amy Olson in Massachusetts. Special thanks to Linda Hanson for giving Ava the care and understanding she needed and to Amy for welcoming this very special little girl into her home and heart."
Kia
It's only two weeks into the new year and already we have placed our second Afghan. Kia came to rescue after her owner's partner passed away and she found herself in the sad position of having to downsize. She contacted AHRNE and we made arrangements for Kia to be fostered by Chris & Larry Cassenti in Massachusetts.
Kia, who is a lovely 9 year old black girl, was a bit shy and reserved when she first arrived, but she quickly made herself at home, found her favorite easy chair and made friends with Walker, Chris & Larry's other Afghan.
Within a couple of days, Kia was leaping, jumping, and running full tilt in the indoor ring and around the barn with Walker. It took even less time for her to steal the hearts of Chris and Larry and adopt them. Kia has found her forever home at Chrislar Farms.
