Java (Bean) was found wandering the streets of East Providence Rhode Island last summer. He was matted, severely emaciated and had teeth in horrible condition. Java was slated to go to Maine to be fostered, but when Ms. Tranni picked him up at the shelter, one look was all it took. He went right home with her and her husband Austin and hasn't left since! Now 15 lbs later, with clean teeth and a gorgeous black coat, he is one happy puppy! (Well ok, he's really 11 years old.) Tranni's vet attributes his improvement to a diet of Tranni's special doggie stew and lasagna!
Simon is a delightful 4 year old black & tan who was one of a group of 18 Afghans seized by animal control in Pennsylvania. He has a wonderful, loving temperament. None of these dogs knew anything about living in a house. His foster family gave him a great start in the right direction and his new family is hard at work teaching him to relax on the couch with his toys. The good news is that he is very smart and anxious to please, so this won't be a difficult job. Simon is a little guy and only weighed 38 lbs when he was rescued but he has an enormous personality! He was adopted by Pat and Leon in NH and looks forward to a wonderful pampered life.
Laredo (now Brook) is one of 18 Afghans (and many other breeds) seized by Animal Control in Chambersburg, PA because of severe neglect. He is a lovely little cream 2 year old who weighs in at 42 lbs. His coat was severely matted and caked with feces and he was infested with worms. The poor boy didn't know how to walk on a leash and couldn't do stairs. He probably had never set foot in a house in his short and unhappy life. After being briefly fostered by Amy Mero in MA, Brook was adopted by Marie & Bill in CT who had lost their other Afghans to age and illness and were desperately in need of another Afghan to love. Laredo can now climb stairs and has learned that sleeping on the bed is where every Afghan belongs.

Gia is a sweet little black masked red girl who was given up after a death in the family. She went from her home in New York to a foster home with Gloria & Joe in rural Connecticut. Happily Gloria and Joe decided Gia was the girl for them and she now shares her home with an amiable standard poodle.
Pepper is an adorable black and tan puppy who spent his first birthday in foster care. He was turned over to rescue because his owners didn't have time for him. His coat was one giant mat, but with infinite patience, his foster mom, Barbara, was able to comb him out and now he has a clean, fluffy puppy coat. Pepper is a delightful youngster who was quickly adopted by another Barbara. She had recently lost her older Afghan and her elderly Shitzu was grieving but now has a new playmate!

Blue is the world's largest Afghan - or so it seems. He was turned in to AHRNE when his owners relocated. He's 5 years old and very playful, but also likes a good snooze on the couch. Blue was adopted by the Cassenti's of Massachusetts. He now spends his time with Woody, another AHRNE alum, on their large horse farm or traveling to shows in his own motor home. Life doesn't get much better.
Tasha is a lovely little7 year old who started life in the northeast and then briefly moved to West Virginia. After her owner passed away, she decided she preferred New England, so she returned north. Tasha has found a new home with the Cassenti's of Massachusetts She has joined Blue and Woody and by all reports has made herself right at home.
The Connecticut 7 - Fortunately, life did get a whole lot better for this group of dogs which was seized by animal control in Plymouth, CT after an anonymous tip that the dogs were being abused. The dogs were all severely underweight, horribly matted or, in some cases, almost totally naked because of severe mange. Several required prolonged hospitalization. Sadly, the oldest dog, mother to most of the others, didn't make it. She succumbed to a sudden viral infection. The others, however, were more fortunate and made a full recovery. After a civil trial, the judge awarded custody of the dogs to the state, which then asked AHRNE's help in placing them. The dogs have gone to loving homes throughout the Northeast and are now enjoying the lives of luxury they so richly deserved
