2007 Rescue Parade

In January, 63 dogs, including 19 Afghan Hounds, were seized by Animal Control in Chambersburg, PA because of severe neglect.

The dogs were extremely malnourished, they suffered from internal parasites, skin problems, orthopedic problems and a host of other problems.  They were all horribly filthy and smelly with feces encrusted in their fur.  They were unsocialized and had never seen the inside of a home. None of the dogs were neutered or spayed.  In spite of all that, they have wonderful temperaments, are smart and eager to learn.

Simon and Laredo are being sponsored by Afghan Hound Rescue of New England and came north for fostering.  One dog had to be euthanized because it was too seriously ill.  The remaining 16 Afghans are in foster homes throughout the mid-Atlantic states.  Because of the high costs involved in caring for these dogs, AHRNE committed to donating all of the proceeds from this year's rescue parade to the special fund established for the benefit of the Chambersburg Afghans.  Thanks to the extreme generosity of all of the individuals attending this year's Nutmeg Afghan Hound Club specialty show, AHRNE was able to send a large check to the Chambersburg fund.

Thanks to all who so generously donated of their hearts, homes and funds.

2006 Rescue Parade

The 2006 Rescue parade was held in conjunction with the Nutmeg AHC Specialty on February 10, 2006.

This was a bittersweet year for rescue because many of the familiar furry faces we've seen so often at past parades have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  But we were proud to have Pippa and Shadow join us as proud representatives of the breed.  The furkids were both winners as evidenced by their red, white and blue rosettes and their moms received lovely velvet wine bags donated by Lucia Brown.

Thanks to the generosity of all those attending the Nutmeg Specialty, the Afghan Hound Rescue of New England fundraiser was a tremendous success.
