Afghan
Hound Rescue of New England, Inc. is a non-profit, tax-exempt group of
volunteers dedicated to intervening on behalf of abandoned,
abused, neglected or lost Afghan Hounds. We also offer help to
owners who can no longer keep their Afghans and need to place
them. AHRNE receives its funding from individual contributors,
fund-raising events and donations from Afghan Hound Breed
Clubs. Our ultimate goal is to match the right dog with the
right home, for the enduring happiness of both dog and owner.
All dogs are placed in the Northeast. AHRNE, Inc. will
not ship dogs.
To reach our goal,
we:
-
house homeless
Afghan Hounds in temporary foster homes or kennels while
looking for the right permanent home.
-
provide
veterinary care, including all shots, heartworm testing and
preventative (and treatment if found heartworm positive),
and spaying and neutering.
-
evaluate
temperaments while dogs are in foster care, to make the
proper match with a new owner.
-
screen
potential homes through applications, telephone interviews,
reference checks and home visits.
-
provide
post-adoption support and advice.
-
provide breed
information and education.
